ITI opens a Techno Centre at Rajavasa State Trust Centre at Narahenpita
Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) opened a Techno Centre at the RajawasaState Trust Centre atthe Narahenpita Economic Centre on 11th February 2021. Rajawasa State Trust Centre is the only state-owned trading mall, managed by the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation under the Ministry of Trade in Sri Lanka. The Rajawasa State Trust Centre was inaugurated to bring the products of state entrepreneurs and local manufactures under one roof for consumers according to the President’s manifesto “Vistas and prosperity and splendour” and consist of more than 78 state-owned and private sector trade boutiques.
As the premier multidisciplinary Research and Development Institute in Sri Lanka, one of ITI core business is transferring technologies developed through research, development and innovations for the industry for commercialization. In aligning with this ITI’s Techno Centre showcases new and exciting products which are ready for technology diffusion and key ITI technologies already commercialized to MEs, SMEs and Large Entrepreneurs.
This one-stop ITI Techno Center facilitates especially small business and SMEs to obtain product technologies, branding for exports and packaging, business linkages and promotional activities. It also to tie up with the ITI packaging laboratory and accredited testing laboratories to enhance product quality. Entrepreneurs get an opportunity to market their products which are ITI technologies at the Techno Centre Rajawasa State Trust Centre.

ITI signs corporation agreements with COMSATS Centers of Excellence in Pakistan during the visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan
The Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) signed corporation agreements with the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi and the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) University Islamabad (CUI). The Director General of ITI, Dr Radhika Samarasekera represented ITI while the Pakistani High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Major General Muhammad Saad Khattakre presented Pakistan and was signed in the presence of the Prime Minister, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka and Prime Minister of Pakistan Hon. Imran Khan on 23rd February 2021 at Temple Trees.
The Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with the ICCBS will enable academic and research collaborations in the fields of Medicinal Plants and Natural Products Chemistry, Food Technology, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology Tropical Disease Research, Biomedical Sciences and Analytical and Clinical Testing Services. The frameworks of cooperation are also identified as joint activities including short-term and long-term academic programs, visiting expert research exchange programs, joint postdoctoral and postgraduate training, Joint short-term training, publishing joint research journals and publications and scholarly materials and conducting joint conferences, workshops and seminars, facilitating sharing and use of scientific resources and facilitating to find grants to establish analytical services laboratories.
The Intent of Cooperation (IoC) signed between CUI and ITI would focus on joint academic and research activitiesincluding short-term and long-term academic programs, publishing joint research journals and publications and scholarly materials and visits and exchange of researchers, staff and faculty members, Joint training programs, conferences and seminars, facilitating sharing and use of scientific resources.
COMSATS is an international intergovernmental organization with the objective of assisting sustainable socio-economic uplift of the developing countries through appropriate applications of science and technology. The Industrial Technology Institute was designated as the Centre of Excellence of COMSATS in Sri Lanka during the time of Dr Sirimal Premakumara, as the Director General in 2013.During the past years, Sri Lanka has been offered many scholarships and training through the COMSATS network. These agreements will further strengthen the cooperation between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Science and Technology and Education.
