  •   Gas Chromatography

gas

Gas Chromatography (GC) is an instrumental technique use to analyze organic compounds. The compounds with sufficient volatility and thermal stability could be analyzed using GC. The samples that come in different matrices such as water, soil, fertilizer, etc are extracted into organic solvents, separated from interfering substances and concentrated before introducing to the instrument. Once the sample is injected into the instrument it enters to the separation column with the carrier gas. Inside the column the compound gets separated into various components. The detector measures the components that exit from the column. Different detectors will give different types of selectivity.

In our lab we use GC with various detectors to conduct analysis of volatile organic and chlorinated organic compounds;

GC – FID/ECD   - Chlorinated organic compound/volatile organic compoundanalysis

GC-ECD/NPD    - Chlorinated organic compound analysis

GCMS                - Volatile organic compound analysis

GCMS-MS         - Volatile organic compound analysis

  •   High Performance Liquid Chromatography
hplc

HPLC is an instrumental analytical technique to separate compounds into their components. Unlike in normal liquid chromatography where the liquid passes through the column under gravity, HPLC uses high pressure to pass the sample mixture through the column packed with a solid adsorbent material. As in other chromatographic techniques, separation of the sample into its constituents occurs according to their affinity to the mobile and stationary phase. The eluting components that come out from the column is detected by detectors. The detectors

At ITI, we use three types of HPLC in our analytical work.

HPLC- DAD   – Pesticides, food toxins, pharmaceuticals analysis

HPLC- FLD    - Pesticides, food toxins, pharmaceuticals analysis

HPLC- RID     - Pesticides, food toxins, pharmaceuticals analysis

  •   LCMS-MS (Liquid Chromatograph- Tandem Mass Spectrometer (QTRAP)

    LCMSMS

LCMSMS (QTRAP) is one of the recently added high end instruments to Residue Alanysis Lab. LCMS-MS is usually a high-performance liquid chromatograph combined with two mass spectrometers. Here the injected sample which gets separated into different components in the LC column is directed into the first mass spectrometer where it is ionized. The resulting ions are then separated and detected in the second mass analyzer. The results of LSMS-MS in more accurate and précised with better selectivity.

LCMS-MS is highly used in analysis of polar organic compounds in our lab.

  • Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry

aas

Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometeris a scientific instrument used to detect metals in solutions. Here the sample is fragmented into small metal atoms using anatomizer. These metal atoms interact with radiation of a pre-set wavelength which can be measured and interpreted. AAS can determine metals in parts per million to parts per billion concentration ranges with speed and affordable cost.

AAS-VGA       - Element Analysis

AAS-GTA       - Element Analysis

ICPMS is a type of mass spectrometer which is combined with inductively coupled Plasma. This instrument has the capability to detect metals at concentrations as low as one part in 1015

  • GR Microwave Extraction System

Neos-Neos-GR-and-MAC-75-Milestone-Technologies

The NEOS-GR is based on the MHG technology (Microwave Hydrodiffusion and Gravity) a new and green technique for the extraction of essential oils from different kinds of aromatic plants.

This green extraction is an original “upside down” microwave alembic combining microwave heating and earth gravity at atmospheric pressure. Based on a relatively simple principle, this method involved placing plant material in a microwave reactor, without adding any solvent or water.

It is important to note that this green method allows to extract essential oils without distillation and evaporation which are the most energy consuming between the unit operations. The distillation step which can represent up to 80% of the total analytical procedure is no longer required. Whereas traditional processes are carried out within 3 hours, solvent-free microwaves hydrodiffusion plus gravity requires no more than 30 minutes!
Once the essential oils have been extracted they can be analyzed directly by GC-MS without any preliminary clean-up or solvent exchange steps.

Application

  • Extraction of essential oils from medicinal plants/spices
  • Extraction of natural flavor compounds
  • Extraction of pigments, aroma components, antioxidants and other secondary metabolites from fruits/vegetables/medicinal plants

  • Research Microscope ECLIPSE Ts2R
pic 07

The ECLIPSE Ts2R sets a new standard for the inverted research microscope, providing a wide range of observation methods and applications in a compact body that can easily fit in limited laboratory spaces while maintaining excellent operability.

This new contrasting technique is compatible with both plastic and glass culture dishes. Unlike phase contrast or NAMC, Emboss Contrast does not require special objective lenses and therefore has minimal effect on Epi-fluorescence observation. Emboss Contrast allows thick samples such as embryos to be easily observed in pseudo-three-dimensional image with great clarity.

  • uv / vis microplate reader - spectramax plus 384
home

This UV-visible absorbance microplate reader provides ultrafast, full spectral range detection for cuvettes, 96-well, and 384-well microplates, with the only temperature-independent method for pathlength correction.

  • Temperature control
  • Shaking capabilities
  • Multichannel optical design
  • Eliminates error

The patented multichannel optical design of the SpectraMax Plus384 Absorbance Microplate Reader mimics a dual beam spectrophotometer, measuring each sample in the plate directly, eliminating measurement error due to variations in light output between optical fibers on other instruments for more reliable data reporting.

The nine-channel system delivers both high precision and speed when reading cuvettes, 96-well, and 384-well microplates for endpoint measurements, kinetic assays, and spectral scans. The optical system of SpectraMax Plus384 Microplate Reader is built around a monochromator, which allows for selection of up to six wavelengths at a time for absorbance detection in the UV-visible wavelength range (190 nm - 1000 nm). Narrow 2nm bandwidths deliver increased measurement accuracy and linearity over the widest range of assays, including ELISAs in the visible range or DNA quantitation in the UV range.
