The staff at the ITI have been recognized with awards for their contributions to invention, innovation, research, publications, sustainable economic development, and social well-being. Receiving both national and international awards is a testament to their dedication and achievements.
Our staff has received international awards such as WAITRO and Geneva International Invention Awards. In addition, they have received national awards including Presidential Awards, Sahasak Nivavum Award, National Science and Technology Award for Scientists, National Inventors Award, National Research Council Award, National APEX Award, SUSRED Award, CARP Award and DASIS Award.

These awards collectively showcase the institution’s dedication to excellence in various fields and its significant impact at both national and international levels. WAITRO AWARD (World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations) – 2016

2016

This award was created to reward innovations with significant social or economic impact produced with major contribution from the submitting organization, in line with WAITRO’s objective of enabling the development of action-oriented partnerships for sustainable development. The awards are given in two categories; Social Innovation and Business Innovation.
ITI was the only institution in the world to get nominated for the finalists in both categories.
Finalist in innovation award 2016 in Business Innovation category was received for the Kithual Activation and Sap Production Enhancing Reagent (KASPER) developed by ITI.

WAITRO AWARD (World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations)

2022

WAITRO IMPACT Award 2022 an International Award received from the Worlds Association of Industrial & Technological Research Organizations– Selected as a Finalist in the in the competition held from 14-15 November 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa, for the project outcomes presented on “Enhancing preservation of fruits using Nanotechnology; Developing and Adopting new technologies to minimize postharvest losses in Sri Lanka” and its impact on Sustainable Development Goals. This project was an IDRC, Canada funded research project conduct by a ITI team of Prof. Ilmi Hewajulige (Principal Investigator), Dr. Shanthi Wilson Wijeratnam, Mr. Nisala Gunesekara, Ms. Yoga Milani, Ms. Shiranthi Perera, Dr. Dineth Samarawickrama, Mr. Anura Sooriyarachchi and Ms. Manori Wijemanna.
